Condition
Canvas has been wax relined and surface has been somewhat pressed as a result. however, detail and coloration remain very good throughout, especially in the foliage. there is an area at top right edge where there seems to have been a loss to the original canvas and which has now been repainted. some minor thinnesses can be seen here and there in the browns of some of the branches. under UV light, it is difficult to see through a thick, old varnish. there appears to be an old repaired diagonal tear (about 6 in. long) in the center foreground, just above the deer. another smaller possible repaired tear at far center right. possible reinforcement to some of the darkest browns of the trees and background, but it is hard to tell due to the varnish.
