Catalogue Note

Saint Catherine was one of the most well-represented saints in Medieval sculpture. Often depicted in glamorous contemporary clothing, indicative of Catherine's noble birth and beauty, this figure is more serious than most. The full oval face, pointed chin, and heavily hooded eyes are typical of Netherlandish sculpture.
