Description
- Gaetano Gandolfi
- A capriccio with four head studies, including two orientals
- Pen and brown ink and wash
Condition
Hinge mounted. There is evidence of foxing to the left side of the sheet and some old staining to the same area. There are some losses to the right edge and a small hole in the upper right corner. There are some old ink stains, possibly from the artist's studio, showing through from the verso. The medium is still strong in most places, but slightly less crisp in the areas surrounding where wash has been applied.

Catalogue Note
The present sheet is stylistically close to the work of Gaetano, although these studies were closely imitated by his son Mauro, an equally talented artist. See note to lot 46.
