Catalogue Note
This sheet bears an old attribution to Primaticcio and although it cannot be connected to a known composition, the figure itself and the subtle use of red chalk and white heightening are close in technique to other studies by the artist. The handling of the drapery can be closely compared, for instance, to drawing of a standing man draped in a cloak seen in profile, now in the Louvre, datable to 1541-1544.1
