Description
- Three albums of perspective drawings
- The approximately 80 sheets, all of varying sizes, bound into three albums, within dark blue paper covers;
the drawings in pen and brown ink, most with grey and/or blue wash, some with ruled black chalk lines;
many extensively inscribed; the albums each with nearly identical inscriptions: a) in pencil, on the final sheet: par Mr Walwein - Joseph - / peintre Ypres or very similar; b) in brown ink, on front cover: Leçons de Perspective / par / Joseph Walwein. peintre / Ypres 1833
Catalogue Note
Despite the inscriptions on the covers dating these fascinating albums to 1833, both the paper and the style seem somewhat earlier. No artist by the name of Joseph Walwein is recorded, although the Walwein family were notable citizens of Ypres.
