Catalogue Note

The attribution to Magnasco has kindly been confirmed by Dssa. Fausta Franchin Guelfi on the basis of photographs. She dates this picture to around 1720–25, and compares it to the pair of pictures of very similar dimensions depicting groups of Camaldolese monks today in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
