Description
- Orazio Borgianni
- Christ among the Doctors
- oil on canvas
Provenance
Private collection, Spain.
Condition
The canvas has been relined and had a thick varnish applied. This has flattened the paint and left a milky sheen in large areas.
Heavy craqueleure throughout, in some places this has caused the paint to lift and flake. Leaving minute holes in the paint surface. In the lower left, however there is anoticable peforations 20 cm. from the left and 6 cm from the bottom.
In all four corners there is damge caused by contact with the frame. Ths is most apparent in the upper left corner.
Under UV and to a certain extent using the naked eye, it is possible to see a tear 10 cm. long from left to right going through Christ's mouth. This has been repainted but is still apparent. The craqueleure has been filled in and there are minor repairs to the frame damage.
