Condition
The picture is fresher in tone and richer in colour than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The paint surface is in good overall condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint although the canvas is sagging very slightly in the upper right. There is surface dirt and a thick varnish overall. There is also evidence of some retouching to the background under her hand, to the left of her head and to her nose and ear but these are only visible upon close inspection. Examination under ultraviolet reveals some minor scattered work to the background centre right and to the folds of her drapery but otherwise the picture appears to be in god country house condition. A thick varnish impedes full inspection. Offered in a decorative gilt wood and plaster frame in good overall condition.
