  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Acquired by the family between 1815-1830;
Thence by descent.

Condition

The picture is lighter in tone and richer in colour than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The canvas is lined. The paint surface is in good overall condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint except for 2 old well restored creases down the centre of the canvas and across the centre of the canvas and there is a very minor scuff in the foliage lower left and a fleck of paint loss in the cows hind leg. Otherwise a thick varnish and surface dirt prevail. Examination under ultraviolet reveals some minor flecks of retouching upper right and lower left and there is a patch on the reverse which corresponds to the lower left in the paint surface but to no discernible damage. The varnish is thick and impedes inspection but the picture appears to be in good country house condition. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in good overall condition.
