Condition
The catalogue illustration is representative. The paint surface is in good overall condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint except for two small abrasions as can be seen centre left and centre right on the roofs of the houses. There are 2 minor areas of restored damage in the rider of the dark horse lower left and to a small tear just below the roof of the central house. Both correspond to two old small patches verso, but neither compromise the integrity of the picture. Examination under ultraviolet reveals retouching to them, and also strengthening to the figures and forms lower left as well as some scattered areas of strengthening lower right to the houses. There also appears to be older retouching in the sky however the varnish obscures it. Overall the picture is in good country house condition. Offered in a Dutch style black wood frame with gold embellishment in good overall condition.
