Description

Provenance
Acquired by the family between 1815-1830;
Thence by descent.
Thence by descent.
Condition
The picture is lighter in tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The canvas is unlined. The paint surface is in fair overall condition. There is a minor indentation likely caused by a knock in the background upper centre and there is a horizontal crease running through the canvas which cuts across her midriff. Otherwise surface dirt and a dirt varnish prevail. Examination under ultraviolet reveals some retouching to the flesh tones and scattered flecks elsewhere which seem to span several campaigns of retouching however the varnish impedes inspection. Offered in as plain carved wood frame in good overall condition.
