Description

  • Johann Jakob Hartmann
  • Jacob's dream; The angel appearing to Hagar and Ishmael
  • a pair, both oil on copper

Condition

Both copper panels are flat and stable. The varnishes appear clear and even. The former: The surface of the dark tones has pronounced craquelure. Inspection under UV reveals a small repaired 1cm damaged a third of the way down on the left margin, a 1cm repair under Jacobs arm and some scattered retouchings in the sky, but otherwise only tiny retouchings in the foliage. The latter: There is an old restored damage in the upper right corner measuring 8 by 4 cm. Inspection under UV light reveals additional tiny scattered retouchings in foliage, around the figures, and some more minor scattered retouchings in the sky. The pair are offered in matching gilt composite 19th century frames.
