Description

  • Cornelis Dusart
  • Peasants playing skittles before an inn
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

With X. Scheidwimmer, Munich, by 1973;
Egon Rusche, Oelde;
Acquired from the above by the late owners in September 1975 for 95,000 Deutschmarks.

Literature

Die Weltkunst, 22 October 1973, reproduced p. 1731 (in an advertisement by Schweidwimmer).

Condition

The canvas has a firm relining. In very good overall condition. The paint surface is secure and stable, the varnish appears clear and even. There are no major damages visible. There is a very minor degree of wear in the dark tones in the centre and centre left. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals only very few retouchings, some in the sky, and one tiny touch in the cheek of the lady in the foreground. The varnish fluoresces in a milky opaque manner so any earlier restoration would be hard to make out. Offered in a gilt wood frame in fair condition.
