Description

  • Head of a man wearing a red cloak, bust-length
  • oil on beechwood panel, the reverse with the painted device of a single column within an architectural surround

Condition

The panel is flat and held by two horizontal batons. There are two old splits from the lower margin (measuring 18 and 14 cm.) There is a further small vertical damage in the upper left corner.The paint surface is in good condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows a scattering of small local retouching chiefly to the forehead and chin. Offered in a later Italian "Cassetta" style gilt frame.
