Condition

The canvas has been relined and is requires no attention. Overall the paint surface is in good condition and details of the foreground figures remain sharp. There is a large area upper right where the paint is beginning to lift slightly from the canvas. There is thinning in the paint of the the trees upper left. There are a number of old small damages to the canvas measuring approximately 1.5 by 1.5 cm. which have been repaired. These are found in the bush found centre above the Louis VIX, and in an area to the left by the figures dressed in red standing beneath the trees. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows retouching to the sky and horizon line, to the trees far left, to the aforementioned damages and scattered around the figure groups lower right.
