Condition
Laid down and window mounted. Overall in very good condition. A small circular abrasion in the upper right section of the sheet and a small area of light brown staining in the Villa behind. Otherwise colours remains fresh and vibrant.

Catalogue Note
Robert produced another version of this drawing, almost an exact replica, dated 1781, which is now in a New York private collection.1 Carlson, in his catalogue entry for that drawing, mentions that the two figures and their accessories, along with the pedestal and the urn, derive from Robert's watercolour, Le Grand Escalier (fig. 1).2
