Catalogue Note
Clarkson Stanfield first travelled to Venice in 1831. This drawing almost certainly dates from this visit and closely relates to a larger watercolour of the same view in the British Museum. That work, which is dated 1831, was engraved by E. Goodall for the publication Heath’s Picturesque Annual (1832).
