Catalogue Note
Paul Hirsch (1881-1951), whose great collection of music is now mostly in the British Library, was an old friend of Richard Strauss. In October 1947, he travelled down from Cambridge to meet the composer on his final visit to England, and they played Skat together. This manuscript remained within the Hirsch family until presented to the mother of the current owner.
