Catalogue Note
A fine complete set of the famous stage and costume designs for the première of Der Rosenkavalier created by Alfred Roller (1864-1935), TOGETHER WITH A COPY OF THE RARE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION BOOK (Regieskizze). The triumphant première at the Dresden Royal Opera was produced by Max Reinhardt. We have traced no copy of his Regieskizze in libraries in Britain, and only three copies elsewhere; in the New York Public Library (Rychtarik papers), Harvard (Jacoby papers) and in the Austrian National Library. This little volume provides a comprehensive record of the stage movements for each character, illustrated with plans and indexed to pages in Fürstner's vocal score. At the end there is also a list of the colour plates, with detailed descriptions of each costume.
