Condition
Very good condition overall with some weathering to the surface due to outside exposure ; old remains of mosse visible as black steins. Minor chips to the edges, consistent with age and handling. The tips of both tails show joints where they have been restored. Very attractive and decorative pieces.

Ces deux chimères étaient probablement destinées à encadrer l'entrée d'une propriété ou à en orner le parc. Leur expression féroce est particulièrement marquée et l'on peut voir un travail de sculpture bien détaillé.
Dans la mythologie grecque et étrusque, la chimère était une créature fantastique avec une tête de lion, un corps de chèvre et une queue de serpent, qui crachait du feu et dévorait les humains.
