Condition
Very finely modelled ivory with some fine hairline fissures at several places consistent with age. Remains of original polychromie at several places. The Child's head missing. Very fine ivory.

Catalogue Note
La finesse des traits de la Vierge, le bel ovale de son visage aux longs yeux fendus, au nez droit et fin et au petit menton en pointe, ainsi que les larges ondulations de sa chevelure peuvent être rapprochés d'un ivoire du même sujet conservé à Rotterdam, au musée Boijmans-Van Beuningen (inv. n° F 6). Les plis marqués, dits "à becs", de sa robe et de son manteau sont également caractéristiques des ivoires parisiens du XIVe siècle tels que la Vierge à l'Enfant assise du musée du Louvre (inv. n° OA 2582).
