15 fragments of leaves, including: (a) half-leaf bisected laterally of a monumental Passional, 280mm. by 220mm., containing parts of the Vita S. Hilaris de Galenatensis, mentioning Theodoric the Great, king of the Germanic Ostrogoths (475-526), ruler of Italy (493-526), regent of the Visigoths (511-526), and a patricius of the Eastern Roman Empire, in double column, 18 lines of a skilled hand with flowing descenders, verso scrubbed blank, Italy, first half of the twelfth century; (b) top half of a leaf from a Lectionary, 345mm. by 250mm., with parts of Leo the Great, Sermo VIII and XXVIII, double column, 26 lines in a rounded bookhand, some holes through reuse on binding and text on verso partially obscured through water damage, Italy, first half of twelfth century; (c) top half of a leaf from a portable Lectionary, 145mm. by 175mm., double column, 16 lines in accomplished bookhand, rubrics in red, initials in same or green with elaborate scrolling penwork, some fragments of printed text and paint adhering, France, thirteenth century (after 1230); (d) 2 near-complete leaves from a Lectionary, each 215mm. by 180mm., with readings from Haymo of Halberstadt (or Auxerre, see lot 8), Hom.V (In die Dedicationis Templi: Migne, Pat.Lat.118, col. 812d) and a commentary on Revelations, double column, 31 cramped lines remaining of a rounded and casual bookhand, red rubric and single 2-line red initial with scalloped penwork, Germany, thirteenth century; plus 3 fragments from a thirteenth-century Lectionary with large coloured initials with fine penwork, 6 fragments from thirteenth-century liturgical books and a leaf from a German Choirbook of c.1300; all recovered from bindings and hence trimmed and defective in places with stains, folds and small holes
