BURSTING WITH WEALTH AND ABUNDANCE
Since ancient times, the symbolism of fruits, vegetables and flowers are glorified by the Chinese. During important festivals based on the yearly cycle of planting and harvesting, specific fruits were presented for auspiciousness of the seasons, whilst others are used for celebratory symbols for weddings and birthdays.
The peapod, for example, due to its succulent form and figure, is symbolic of a purse bursting with gold coins, as well as the blessing of numerous offspring and children. Four peas represent luck in all four season; three peas the descent of Fu Lu Shou deities; two peas keep both the mother and her child safe. These extensive figurative meaning of peapods makes it a popular motif amongst artisans to reciprocate the gifts of Mother Nature by carving them in jadeite in celebratory joy.
These highly translucent jadeite peapods of fine emerald green colour with apparent plumpness both front and back celebrates womanhood and nature, whilst are also simply a fabulous pair of ear pendants.
