The oval sapphire weighing 53.51 carats, double claw-set between pear-shaped diamond shoulders, signed VCA, numbered, maker's marks, size 52, sizing band, case by Van Cleef & Arpels.
Condition
Accompanied by SSEF report no. 72977, stating that the 53.51 carat sapphire, measuring 22.80 x 18.91 x 14.46 mm, is of Ceylon origin, with no indications of heating.
Sizing band signed VCA and numbered 148 183, maker's mark for Van Cleef & Arpels on outside of shank. Stamped PT 950 for platinum and Or 750 for 18 carat gold. Sapphire of medium strong saturation, very good transparency, and a few small inclusions visible under 10x magnification. Side diamonds estimated to weigh approximately 1.00 carat each, estimated G-I colour, SI-I clarity, as gauged and graded in the mounting. Signs of little wear to the metal consistent with light use, minor evidence of resizing. In very good condition. Gross weight approximately 17 grams.
