Catalogue Note
We would like to thank Tom Dixon's Studio for their assistance in cataloguing this lot.
Tom Dixon founded the "Creative Salvage" group in 1985, in order to prove that "success was not in the expensive research and development cost of modern day products, but in the recycling of scrap to form stylish and functional artefacts for the home". His work is a reflection of the mid-1980s, the young in doubt after the Thatcher years, emerging from the subculture of the urban streets. Its pieces of furniture are deconstructed of seeming value but explore totems, emblems and symbols. Through the collaged use of found material, his sculptural chairs reflect an urban source of inspiration and the constant changes of fragmented contemporary life.
