Catalogue Note

Cascade (Kengai) style. The Hong Kong Pine is considered a premium variety, also known as Island Pine. Its leaves are long and slender, with new buds appearing red or emerald green in colour. Its rarity has inspired the creativity of Hong Kong connoisseurs, who have crafted a new and unique set of bonsai techniques.

Twists and curves have been designed into the originally straight tree trunk, transforming an upright tree into a cascading bonsai bent into the shape of the number eight. The very bottom of the trunk is formed by a branch at an extremely narrow angle, bestowing the tree with an awe-inspiring magnificence.

The tree wood of the Hong Kong Pine is relatively soft and can be styled easily with metal wire. The tree enjoys sandy soil and partial sun, and should be placed in a well-ventilated area.
