Condition

This work on copper plate is in good condition. The paint layer is well adhered to the copper. The slightly uneven surface to the copper seems to be period, and apart from a few small breaks in the lower right and lower left corners, the copper is otherwise in very good condition. The paint layer is similarly very well preserved, with no visible abrasion or weakness. No retouches are clearly visible under ultraviolet light, except possibly a few spots in Christ’s beard, a vertical scratch to the right of the bridge of the nose and a horizontal line in the upper right background. There is a discolored retouching in the orb in the lower right. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
