of rectangular section, the cover cast overall with a dense leiwen ground and pierced with sixteen wan symbols on the flat top, the box cast on two sides with a pair of taotie mask handles suspending a ring, the base with a central panel enclosing twenty characters in seal script
Catalogue Note
A similar bronze incense burner, attributed as cast by a lady named Jiang in the Song dynasty, was included in the exhibition Through the Prism of the Past: Antiquarian Trends in Chinese Art of the 16th to 18th Century, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 2003, cat. no. I-52, where the dating is loosely attributed from the Song to the early Qing dynasty.
