Description

  • bronze
of archaistic gu form, the hexagonal body robustly cast with a slightly globular central section, widely flaring to a trumpet lobed mouth comprising six bracket foliates, all supported on a splayed foot, the flared neck bordered with six archaistic cicada blades, above a band of linked-coin design set with two raised vertical flanges, the bulbous section decorated with dissolved taotie masks against a leiwen ground and set with a pair of flanges on the side, the splayed foot set with a pair of raised flanges and cast in relief with two pairs of stylised confronting kui dragons against a leiwen ground, interrupted by a pair of raised flanges, the surface patinated to a warm variegated brown tone

Condition

There are minor dents to the mouth and foot, and a 1cm chip to one of the lobes of the foot. General oxidisation and surface wear. Surface scratching, including the marking 'X' above the foot.
