Maker’s mark of Martin-Guillaume Biennais
This dinner service is comprised of four corner dishes with covers and a circular vegetable dish with cover. The underside of the covers are engraved with The Biennais inscription and monogram EN above the crown. The corner dishes bear dog finials, the circular example bears a putto finial.
The Louvre collection includes an identical service engraved CJ for Jean Bernadotte, Marshal of France, then King of Sweden in 1818 under the name Charles-Jean.
This particular example bears the initials E & N intertwined under a crown on the circular dish and also E & N both under crowns on each of the other dishes, probably for Eugene De Beauharnais.
