Overall in very good condition. The surface presents with a wonderful rich hue and leather black glaze. The surfaces present with minor irregularities, including minute burst air bubbles, inherent in the material and production technique. With minor surface scratches consistent with age and gentle use. The lower portion of the vase, below the bulbous element, presents with an irregular horizontal line. Under black light, this appears as an area of overspray, approximately 7 x 6 inches, some of which has flaked off, exposing the horizontal line. The interior retains a pleasing original glaze. When examining the interior at the position of the exterior overspray, there is no evidence of disruption to the surface. It is possible that this area may have been oversprayed to cover a glaze irregularity. Under examination by black light there is a restored chip to the foot, at the opposite side to the oversprayed area. The conditions described above are not visible unless examined upon very close inspection. A wonderful monumental work of extraordinary scale and magnificent presence when viewed in person.
