Condition

Good overall condition. Slight fading to pigment on folio borders and scuffing to edges, not visible in the catalog illustration. There is a thin, diagonal, 1cm tear on the lower right edge of the folio border. There are two small pinholes on the image in the sky on the upper left and in the yellow ground, also in the upper left, both visible in the catalog illustration. Slight discoloration to whites and grays, consistent with age. The painting has been laid down on a paper backing.

Catalogue Note

The illustration depicts a famous episode from the epic wherein the monkey king Hanuman lights his tail and jumps through the rooftops of the golden citadel of Lanka, setting it ablaze as the demons hastily try to escape the flames.
