Condition

Please note that this lot is from a Sat Sai series, and not Rasikapriya as stated in the sale catalog. The translation of the inscription on the top of the image reads as follows: 'Of the same name, age and thinking, Radha and Krishna, are eternally united. Wonderful is their celestial beauty beyond the reach of human eyes.' Very good overall condition. Slight loss to upper right edge of folio border, not seen in illustration. Minute rubbing to pigment on skirt of lady seated on extreme right edge below. The yellow tones are slightly brighter than in the catalog illustration. This lot is exhibited in a temporary frame.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

The Rasikapriya treatise describes the passionate romance between a nayaka and nayika, often idealized by Krishna and Radha. In the present illustration, the lovers seated at left are lost in their own world even as they are watched by a group of attendants on the right. For an illustration from the same series see Sotheby’s New York, March 20, 2013, lot 302.
