Catalogue Note

Camille Pissarro executed a number of works on the subject of female bathers in various media during the mid-1890s. The two figures in Etude pour baigneuses appear to be the same model in different poses. This particular drawing relates to an oil painting of 1896 titled Three Bathers Stepping out of the Water, no. 1108 in the Pissarro & Durand-Ruel Catalogue Raisonné (Joachim Pissarro & Claire Durand-Ruel Snollaerts, Pissarro, Catalogue critique des peintures, vol. III, Paris, 2005, no. 1108, illustrated p. 699).
