Catalogue Note

The present work was a gift from the artist to Egidio Constantini, the famed Italian born glassmaker who revitalized the art glass industry on the Island of Murano. Sponsered by Peggy Guggenheim, Constantini would go on to collaborate with Max Ernst, Jean Arp and Pablo Picasso amongst other artists on glass sculpture of their work. Constantini's collaborations with these artists were featured in the Museum of Modern Art's 1965 Sculptures in Glass exhibition, and the Collection of Jules and Gladys Reiner features several examples.
