Catalogue Note

Denys Miller Sutton (1917-1991), a renowned art scholar and magazine editor, wrote numerous articles and publications on artists that he not only admired but also collected. During his tenure he considerably expanded the scope of Apollo, a London-based magazine, addressing sensitive art preservation issues while attracting new contributors among prominent art historians and writers. The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (vol. V, Oxford, 2003, p. 382) describes him as an “astute collector of art.”
