Catalogue Note

On January 18th 1894 "Universal Watch" was founded in Le Locle by the two watch makers Numa Emile Descombes and Ulysse Georges Perret. In 1934 the company was relocated to Geneva.

Universal specialized in producing complicated watches and soon presented its own watch with a 24-hour dial. Universal was amongst the earliest producers of chronographic wristwatches in the 1910s. Over the years many notable timepieces were created, amongst them the Compax, Tri-Compax or Polerouter.

In 1994 Universal Geneve produced the Golden Janus Cabriolet to celebrate their 100th anniversary, based on models of the 1930 and to take a look back of what was achieved and what is ahead.
