Catalogue Note
Reference 4500 is one of the very few Oyster chronograph models produced by Rolex to feature only a 30-minute register and not an additional 12-hour counter. This renders the watch a smoother, more subtle and less sporty design, a look that is more usually associated with watches such as Patek Philippe's celebrated reference 1463.
The present chronograph is a very well preserved example of reference 4500 and is certainly one of the most exclusive and attractive examples in pink gold to have appeared at public auction in recent years. Reference 4500 was launched in the 1940s and was available in yellow gold, pink gold, stainless steel and in stainless steel and gold.
Various models of reference 4500 are described and illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 206 - 221.
