Catalogue Note

This small liturgical text comprises the Psalms to be recited during the procession of the Torah Scrolls at the dedicatory service held to inaugurate the new worship space of Philadelphia’s Congregation Mikveh Israel (here styled Mickvi Israel.) With the exception of the title pages, where Hebrew and English text appear on two sides of the same leaf, the Hebrew text in this volume appears with English translation on identically numbered, facing pages. It was printed in New York by Solomon Henry Jackson who undoubtedly used as his model the nearly identical Form of Service at the Dedication of the New Synagogue of the Kahal Kadosh Shearith Israel, printed by J. Seymour in 1818 (see lot 5). In the present edition, Jackson corrected and completed the vocalizations for the entire Hebrew liturgical text, absent in the earlier version, and added several additional biblical readings, after the Torah procession.
