Catalogue Note

The commission for the equestrian monument, of which the present lot is a reduction, was given to the Dutch artist Martin van den Bogaert, known as Desjardins. It was erected in the Place Bellecour in Lyon in 1713, but destroyed during the French Revolution in 1792; one foot from the monument survived and is preserved in the Musée historique in Lyon.
