cast standing on a lotus pedestal, the principal hands in anjalimudra, the remaining hands holding lunar and solar discs, a sprig of willow and a Buddhist wheel, richly adorned with jewels and scarves, the face with a contemplative expression with two more faces on the back of the head, all crowned with an eight-pointed headdress, the edge of the base dated 22nd year of Chenghua followed by a dedicatory inscription
Condition
There are losses to the tips of the ends of the scarves hanging from the figure's right. There is a crack to the central leaf of the figure's crown. There are two holes just above the lower rim of the base, but these appear to be for securing the figure to a stand. There is wear to the gilt-lacquer and pigments.

Catalogue Note
Inscribed figures of this type are rare, and the willow sprig and Buddhist wheel identify the figure as Guanyin. According to the inscription, the monk Xingchun had the figure made for devotee Xiangbo of Fucheng to be venerated in his home, and gives the devotee's address.
