Description

  • portrait roundel of the sculptor Andrea Foschi of Faenza
  • partially polychromed lead, in a later wood frame
  • After a model by Agostino Ardenti (active second half 16th century) Italian, 17th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the roundel is very good, with dirt and minor wear to the surface consistent with age. There is slight rubbing to the lead and polychromy, particularly to the high points. There is a small circular hole in the lead above the figure's head which was once used for mounting. There are minor nicks to the gilt metal border, and the prongs which secure the lead in place have been lifted in areas on the reverse. There is a joint slightly visible on the top left side of the circular wooden frame. There are two small holes on the reverse at the bottom of the frame due to previous hooks.
