Catalogue Note
Dating and identifying the exact location of this watercolour of Streatley is difficult but its similarity to Bank of the Thames Near Streatley makes it likely that it also dates to 1859. This was the same year that Boyce painted Meadow Orchard at Streatley, Berkshire (private collection), Streatley Mill at Sunset (private collection) and Farm Buildings near Streatley (Trustees of the British Museum, Department of Prints and Drawings). However, there are also similar watercolours from the early 1860s and Streatley was a location that Boyce returned to for many years.
