cast seated in dhyanasana, with hands in vitarkamudra, lotus blossoms emanating from the palms and rising up to the shoulders, dressed in a scarf with trailing ends and a dhoti chased with blossoms within rectangles to resemble patchwork, elaborate jewelry adorning the chest and waist, the pensive face with gentle smile framed by pendant earrings and a tiara

Provenance

Acquired in Chicago in the early 20th century and thence by descent.

Condition

There are losses to the tips of two fingers, some of the leaves of the lotus stems along the upper arm, the top of the chignon, and two leaves of the tiara. The remaining leaves of the tiara are bent inwards. The front edge of the dhoti near the knees are bent and there is a break to the edge of the dhoti at the left knee. There is a 1 1/2 in (3.8 cm) long area of loss to the bottom edge in the rear. The gilt lacquer is heavily worn
