A Calcified Jade Figure of a Luohan Late Ming Dynasty

Estimate
250,000 - 300,000 HKD
bidding is closed

Description

carved in the form of a luohan seated cross-legged on ragged rockwork, his bulbous head flanked by pendulous earlobes reaching to his jawline, his eyes closed in a contemplative manner with the ends of his lips slightly upturned, holding a scroll in both hands with his elbows bent at an angle, the calcified stone of pale buff colour accented with darker brown streaks and finished with a lustrous polish

Condition

The overall condition is quite good. There is a crack measuring approximately 8 cm running across the base and extending upwards along the rock work at the back. There is another crack with minor losses running across the luohan's knuckles, which appears to be extending across the sleeves for a further 5 cm but with a narrower gap. There is another crack of approximately 4 cm long on the lower left side of his back and extending onto the rockwork below. The actual colour is very similar to that of the catalogue illustration.
