Description

  • jade and wood stand
the well-hollowed vessel terminating to a horned dragon head, carved to one side with a chilong peering over the rim forming the handle opposite another clambering chilong in high relief, the exterior carved in low relief with stylised cloud scrolls and a wide band of archaistic swirls, all below a keyfret band and foliate scroll at the rim, the stone of a greyish celadon tone with caramel-brown skin and russet-brown calcified streaks, wood stand

Condition

The rhyton is in good condition with the exception of some tiny nicks to the edge of the large chilongs tail and the rim. It should be noted that the stone is of a slightly darker russet tone than the cataologue illustration would suggest.
