RARE. Daniel's attempt to reach Surat on behalf of the East India Company took him via Egypt and the Red Sea, calling at Yanbu, Jedda and Mocha with observations on Medina and Mecca. A series of misadventures and missed opportunities to join boats to transport him further east led him to return to London, rather than "to stay there [Mocha] till next year, and be prey to those barbarous savages" (p.49).
