Catalogue Note
Written by naturalist William Bartram, son of the noted botanist John Bartram (see lot 83), this book is a classic of the Southern frontier, detailing plant and animal life, as well as recording the various native Indian cultures. Due to its lyrical narrative, Bartram's Travels influenced many eighteenth- and nineteenth-century authors both in Great Britain and the United States, including Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
