Catalogue Note

"Barrow became secretary to the Admiralty, from 1804 to 1845. He promoted Arctic expeditions, and was a founder and vice-president of the Royal Geographical Society in 1830. Barrow Strait in Canada and Point Barrow in Alaska were named in his honor" (Hill). A sequel to this work was published in 1846 (see lot 81).
