Catalogue Note
An early issue of this rare work with the plates watermarked 1801 and the text leaves 1805. According to Hill the watermark dates vary widely from each copy. Webber was Captain Cook's draftsman aboard the Resolution on Cook's last voyage from 1776 to 1780. Between 1788 and 1792 Webber etched sixteen Pacific and East Indies views which were published posthumously by Boydell as Views in the South Seas. The views include New Zealand, Tahiti, ice-fields, Kamchatka, Macao (see illustration at front of catalogue), and Cracatoa.
